AmeriHealth Caritas California

In late 2021, we anticipate that the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) will release a request for proposal (RFP) for their new Medi-Cal initiative, "California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal" (CalAIM).

We intend to respond to this RFP. It is our goal to qualify for the Medicaid Two-Plan model in San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Los Angeles, and Kern counties, and the Geographic Managed Care (GMC) model in Sacramento and San Diego.

If we are selected as a Medi-Cal managed care health plan, we also intend to implement a Medicare Advantage special needs plan for Medi-Cal beneficiaries who are dually eligible for Medicare and Medi-Cal.

To meet these goals, we are currently developing a network of hospital, physician, ancillary, behavioral health, vision, and nonemergency medical transportation providers. We want to partner with dedicated providers like you.

  • Population health program. Our holistic, person-centered approach to care uses a population-based health management program to provide comprehensive care management services. This fully integrated model includes an individualized plan of care to coordinate the delivery of physical and behavioral health services and to help meet social and environmental support needs.
  • Disease management and healthy behaviors programs. We support your care for our members through programs that address physical health conditions such as adult and child obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and asthma. We encourage members to actively participate in improving and maintaining their health, and we reward them for practicing healthy behaviors.
  • Behavioral health resources and support. We recognize that physical health is just one part of wellness. That is why we integrate behavioral health services and administer them directly. We offer tools and training to help providers screen for behavioral health conditions, such as depression and anxiety.
  • Managed long-term services and supports (MLTSS). Our integrated model of care touches the whole person, including the social determinants of health: housing, food, employment readiness, and other circumstances that impact our members' quality of life. By coordinating these aspects of a member's care, we can help you achieve better health outcomes, promoting the independence and health of our MLTSS members who prefer to stay in their own communities.
  • Partnership with the community. We are committed to partnering with providers to deliver the care members need. In addition to serving physical and behavioral health needs, we help members find food, housing, and employment. We collaborate with existing community organizations to connect members with the help they need.
  • Local presence. We know that health care is personal. Our presence is local — with national support. Reinforced by our strong national infrastructure, we plan to staff our Medi-Cal and Medicare Advantage special needs health plans with local professionals who know the community because they already live and work there. Your Provider Network Management Account Executive will visit your office and know you by name.
  • E-solutions. We support your practice with technology to simplify administration, from claims submission to patient health management. We are committed to working with you to care for members and improve health outcomes, and we offer educational opportunities and frequent communication about top health care concerns.
  • Customizable value-based programs. For more than 10 years, AmeriHealth Caritas has partnered with providers in delivering value-based programs. We use a value-based care model that incentivizes high-quality, cost-effective care over the traditional fee-for-service system that pays for a volume of services, regardless of the value of the services. Our ability to transform provider compensation to a value-based structure can help increase opportunities for providers to better integrate physical and behavioral health services, address social determinants of health, fill provider workforce gaps, and improve Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®) rates.
